The importance of proper weight control

There were times when belly fats were a symbol for luck and good fortune, but nowadays, it’s considered more as a disease. Obesity is a cause of various diseases and increases the mortality risk up to 20%. Therefore, managing and maintaining proper weight is the key to avoid hazardous diseases while improving the quality of your life.

Obesity is defined as excessive fats accumulated beyond normality. When too much nutrients are ingested compared to energy consumption, the surplus energies are accumulated as fats and thus resulting to obesity. Of course, you may gain weight even though you eat less. In the case of hypothyroidism, it slows down the metabolism which attributes to symptoms such as weight gain dry skin, or fatigue. Also, intake of certain medications or menopause in the case of women can make you gain weight even though you don’t eat a lot.

Then how should we control our weight in the most effective and safest way?
In order to prevent and treat obesity, 3 things must be improved: diet, exercise and life habits. And the most important things among them is to improve wrong diet and control dietary intake. You must diagnose your diet habits and then control it.

If you eat 500kcal less from the daily calories intake, it is summed up to 3,500kcal in a week, and converted to 0.5kg. Lessening your daily calories by 500kcal everyday can help you lose 0.5kg within a week and up to 2kg in a month without any exercise. 2kg of weight reduction may sound not enough, but 2~3kg of weight loss per month is recommended for health reasons.

You should check up on your daily exercise and life habits, too. It is good to consider how frequent you’ve used the elevator, how long you’ve been riding the car or how long you’ve been sitting down, and double check if you’ve visited the gym last week. Try to improve everyday habits by using public transportation instead of private car, walking near distances or using the stairs instead of escalators. Also it is best if you can carry out both aerobic and anaerobic exercises too.

Despite your consistent dietary improvement and exercises, and you fail to lose weight for over 3 months, you may consider getting the help of medicinal therapy which helps to control appetite and holds back fat accumulation. Proper diets, exercise, and life habits are very important for lifetime healthcare.
